CHEVROLET BY ADMIN JULY 22, 2020 NO COMMENTS
General Motors is facing tough times because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their updated flagship models will have to wait with the premiere. Silverado truck and Camaro pony car were ready for the debut. However, it is going to happen later. Equinox is one of the best-selling crossovers in the market and the company introduced the new version for 2021 at the latest Chicago Auto Show. Nevertheless, the global pandemic started and the carmaker is again forced to postpone the arrival of the model we already saw. The crossover is coming as the 2022 Chevy Equinox.
Now, GM is in a strange position – fans know a lot about the new 2022 Chevy Equinox, but they have to wait to purchase it. Enthusiasm is about to cool down until it appears. Still, designers could add a thing or two to make something different. For example, the interior can offer extra features, while the exterior colors might be revisited. Engineers also can work on the hybrid configuration. This one should be a priority for the compact crossover. The leading vehicles in this segment are already hybridized and offer the gas mileage over 40 mpg.
2022 Chevy Equinox Changes (Interior and Exterior)
Changes in the new Equinox are interesting. However, we will have to wait a bit more until the vehicle hits the market. Designers refreshed the front fascia, giving a more aggressive look thanks to a wider grille. Also, in back, rear fascia comes with new taillights design. Furthermore, we will see more modifications across the lineup. So, the 2022 Chevy Equinox RS comes with a unique black grille and large wheels. The premium offer includes gloss fascia, LED laps, and some cool small details. All the models are introducing new exhaust tips for a sportier appearance.
Inside the cockpit, we find 64 cubic feet of cargo space. This is under the class average, with some of the competitors offering over 70 cu.ft. Well, on the other hand, the 2022 Chevy Equinox will be a five-seater, while Tiguan and CR-V are about to introduce the third row for passengers. Standard features are touchscreen display with climate controls, cloth upholstery, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto availability. Upper trim levels will boost the offer with leather and advanced systems. French stitches are there for the Premier, while the RS model is using red stitches and special shift knob.
Colors
One of the things we still don’t know about the new model is the paintjobs. The 2022 Chevy Equinox colors palette will be updated. However, the company didn’t announce what kind of changes fans should expect. Some of the options will be carried over. At least 6-7 paintjobs will be available for the base models, with a few premium upgrades. The interior will also offer some color combinations, which will be different depending on the package. High-end trims are coming with premium leather upholstery. Also, expect a special palette for the RS model.
2022 Chevy Equinox Specs, Gas Mileage, Hybrid
The company discontinued the turbodiesel engine for the compact crossover SUV. We thought the greener future is coming, but it wasn’t supposed to happen for the updated Equinox. Now, with extra time for development, engineers might make the vehicle competitive to Toyota Rav4, Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue.
The gas mileage of the 2022 Chevy Equinox will get a boost thanks to the tuning. However, it is still far away from outputs we can see from hybrid crossovers (40+ mpg). The new 2022 Equinox is over 30 mpg when your choice is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol mill. The engine produces 170 hp and 205 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed transmission is a power router, while it is replaced with a nine-pace gearbox for a 2.0-liter optional drivetrain. In this case, you will also get 250 hp and 260 lb-ft and the larger displacement returns a similar gas mileage. On the other hand, towing capacity jumps from 1,500 pounds to 3,500 pounds.
Equinox is not getting a special off-road package. Still, you can enhance the balance by upgrading thee FWD to AWD system. A ground clearance of 7 inches is not spectacular, but it provides enough space for not so extreme road conditions. The safety rating is also going to be better, so you can drive the new crossover with peace in mind.
When Will Equinox Be Available?
The crossover is postponed and it will debut as the 2022 Chevy Equinox. So, there won’t be 2021 YM. Nevertheless, these are the same vehicles. The precise release date will depend on the situation with COVID-19. Many factories are closed and Chevrolet will start building Equinox as soon as they are reopened. The price starts at $25,000 and ends over $40,000 for the heavy-loaded Premier edition with upgrades. We will see if the Equinox Hybrid is going to happen. This can definitely make the crossover one of the most interesting debuts for the 2022 season.
