OpenOffice原是Sun公司的一套商业级Office软件：StarOffice，颠末Sun公司地下法式码之后，正式命名为OpenOffice发展方案，并由许许多多热心于自由软件的人士配合来维持。让巨匠能在MS OFFICE之外，还能有免费的Office可以运用。OpenOffice是个整合性的软件，外面网罗了许许多多的东西，其功效相对不比微软的MS Office还差，不只可以有Word一样的字处理，制作简朴的图形，更有功效强大的图表功效，也能编写网页，还可以做出MS Office中很难处理的数学符号等等，撑持了XML、微软的doc、Excel、ppt文件等花式。
OpenOffice.org 是一套跨平台的办公室软体套件，能在 Windows、Linux、MacOS X (X11)、和 Solaris 等功课系统上实验。它与各个紧张的办公室软体套件相容。OpenOffice.org 是自由软体，任何人都可以免费下载、运用、及散布它。下列是 OpenOffice.org 的紧张元件：
