1. Connect to Win 7 via MSTSC
first, enable remote connection on guest windows 7 operating system.
Right click on Computer icon in startup menu, and select property, then select Remote setting on the left side of eject form.
You will see System Properties dialog, please notice the Remote Desktop part, there are total 3 options for it.
And you’d better select the second choice, “Allow connection from computers running any version of Remote Desktop(less secure)”, if you want to connect windows 7 from windows 2000/xp/2003.
Then, you can access the win7 by using an administrator level account right.
The remote tool in windows 2003 doesn’t support Network Lever Authentication. And if you try to use the windows 7 remote tool in windows 2003 system(just copy necessary files from windows 7 to windows 2003), you will find it still doesn’t support Network Lever Authentication mode. See below screenshot.
2. Connect to Win 7 via DameWare V6.8.1.4
After you installed dameware on a windows 7 based PC, you will find you can’t install dameware service on it from a remote PC and you can’t connect to it either.
The configuration you need to do as follow:
First, add a network exception to windows firewall setting.
Open Control Panel and select System and Security, then select Windows Firewall, click on the Advanced settings link from left side of Windows Firewall, you will get a new form named Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, you should add an exception rule for TCP on port 6129(the default port of dameware remote tool).
Second, enable Remote User Account Control(UAC).

third, run “gpupdate /force” to flash group policy immediately.
Now, you can access this win 7 PC from remote. It will automatically install dameware service at the first time you connect. Enjoy it.
