    1. to be in a difficult or painful situation for a long time without complaining
      - it seemed impossible that anyone could endure such pain.
      - endure doing something
    2. to remain alive or continue to exist for a long time
      - friendships which endure over many years.

       underscore 【ˌʌndərˈskɔ:(r)】 

    1. to emphasize something or show the importance of something
      - these failures underscore the difficulty of what we're attempting to do.
    2. to draw a line under something
      - she underscored the most important points.

       frown 【fraʊn】 

    1. to make a frown in anger, concentration, etc
      - she was frowning when she entered the room, so i knew that she was annoyed about something.
      - frown on/upon something : to disapprove of something

       wind up  

    1. to end
      - the meeting should be winding up soon.
    2. wind something up or wind up something: to end or complete something
      - it's time to wind up the meeting.
    3. to reach or come to a place, situation, or condition that was not planned or expected
      - after a wrong turn, we wound up in an unfamiliar neigborhood.

       pair 【per】 

    1. to put two people or things together
      - the teacher paired students with partners for the assignment.
      - we met when we were paired to work together on the project.
