我成长在一个中产家庭，家里的条件不允许我随心所欲的周游世界。我接触外界的唯一方式就是从小和世界各地的笔友通信，然后就是通过电视。从小到大我一直很喜欢我家当地电视台每周日晚播放的非常搞笑的英国喜剧。所以当有机会申请海外学习交流的时候，我选择的了英国，当然也是因为语言相通。

My： I grew up in a middle-class family, and couldn’t afford to travel around the world as I wished . The only way I got in touch with the world outside was by communicating with pen-pals all over the world, and then by television. I grew up loving the very funny British comedies on my local TV station every Sunday night. Therefore, when I had the opportunity to apply for overseas study and exchange, I chose the UK, of course, because of the common language.

Teacher's : I was raised in a middle-class family and couldn't afford to travel around the world the way I wished I could. My only exposure to the world outside was through letters I wrote to pen-pals from over a dozen countries as a kid, and from television. One thing I loved on television growing up was the hilarious British comedies that aired every Sunday night on my local public television station. So when I got the chance to apply for a study abroad program, I chose London. Plus, I spoke the language.

我一开始觉得因为语言相通所以，在伦敦生活会轻松一些，但其实也是有很多的挑战。有一次有位助教对我没搞清楚作业是什么很不满，当着另一个同学的面训斥了我。我记得我后来回到宿舍，因为我自己的愚蠢大哭一场，当然我现在知道了当时身处陌生而艰难的环境遭遇困难，不能很容易的理解所有的事情也属正常。但即便有这样的遭遇，我不后悔伦敦之行。磨难使人成长。

My : At first I thought life in London would be easier because of the language, but there were a lot of challenges actually. Once, a teaching assistant was so upset that I didn't know the contents of my homework and he scolded me in front of another student. I remember going back to the dormitory and crying because of my own stupidity. Of course, I know now that I was in a strange and difficult environment and encountered difficulties. It was normal not to understand everything easily. But even so, I don't regret my trip to London. Suffering makes one grow.

Teacher's : I thought it would be easier because I spoke the language, but there were challenges,too. Once, a teaching assistant who did not take kindly to my misunderstanding of an assignment berated me in front of a fellow student. I remember going back to my
student house and crying afterwards for being so stupid. Of course, I know now that I was thrown into the deep end, in a completely different and far more challenging environment, and it was natural that I wouldn't understand everything easily. Despite this, I don't regret anything about my time in London. Even through painful experience, we learn to grow.

有时，艰难的时刻会让我情绪低落，思念家乡。但幸运的是，我结实了来自世界各地的人，这些奇妙的经历冲淡了我的负面情绪。我遇到了许多有趣的人，他们有的来自法国、希腊、德国等欧洲国家，也有的来自卢旺达、巴勒斯坦和澳大利亚。学着与不同文化背景的人交朋友非常有意思，而且，与这些新朋友交往也帮助我了解他们的国家。

My : Sometimes, hard times make me upset and homesick. However, I’m really lucky to meet people from all over the world, and these wonderful experiences tempered my negative emotions. I met many interesting people from France, Greece, Germany and other European countries, as well as from Rwanda, Palestine and Australia. Learning to make friends with people from different cultures was fun, and meeting these new friends helped me learn about their countries.

Teacher' s : Sometimes the difficult times made me sad and homesick. But luckily that was out weighed by the amazing experience I had getting to know people from all over the world. I met dozens of interesting people from places like France, Greece and Germany in Europe, to Rwanda, Palestine and Australia. Learning how to make friends with people from different cultures and
backgrounds was really fun, and these new friends helped put a face to the countries they represented.

在这样一个让我产生巨大变化的学年结束的时候，我要离开伦敦了，内心很是纠结。这段经历让我对自己有了更多的认识，无论作为一个年轻女性,还是作为一个美国人。当我回到学校准备开始大四的生活的时候，朋友和老师看到的是一个全新我的。我比以前更成熟，也更了解自己。刚回来的时候，我还不是那么容易调整回到美国大学的生活节奏，但我心里很清楚,这段经历对我以后到世界各地旅行、爱上不同地方的人、和文化来说,仅仅是个开始。

My : At the end of a transformative school year, I was struggling to leave London. This experience made me get a feel of myself, both as a young woman and as an American. When I returned to my college to start my senior year, my friends and teachers saw a whole new me. I am more mature and know myself better than before. When I first came back, it wasn't easy for me to adjust to the pace of life at an American university, but I know that this experience was just the beginning of my journey around the world and my love for people and cultures.

Teacher' s : As I finished the academic year, I was torn inside about leaving London after such a transformative experience. I learned so much about myself as a young woman and an American. When I returned to my college for my final year, friends and professors saw a new me. I had more maturity and self-awareness than before. It was difficult at first to adjust back to American college life, but I know, inside, this was just the beginning of a future of world travel and a love of different people and cultures.
